à la rencontre de l’intensité by Griet Teck
à la rencontre de l’intensité is a visual essay by Marijke Dekeukeleire in collaboration with the Philippe Van Snick Estate. It stems from their shared desire to visualise the surviving traces of the moments that preceded and followed the making of the artworks. Images of Philippe Van Snick’s studio in Brussels alternate with views of the garden, his domestic surroundings, and the remote setting of Le Bos Nord in France.
Dynamics and movement were always important to the artist. They find powerful translations in his philosophical thinking, world view, and his life and art. This visual essay strives to keep the dynamism alive in a different way by sharing the knowledge that is typically kept in the confines of the artist’s day-to-day environment. This inner world is augmented by memories and interpretations from people who were directly or indirectly involved with the oeuvre and, on occasion, the presence of the artist himself.
